Kakamega High School rugby head coach Amos Wamanga has
expressed satisfaction with his team’s fitness levels after the long school
holidays, saying the players have returned in top shape ahead of the new
season.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Wamanga credited the training
camp held in November last year for laying a strong foundation, which he
believes will be crucial when Term One Games kick off in early March.
“I am very much impressed with the level of fitness among
the players, They have come back looking sharp and raring to go and make the
fans proud,” said Wamanga.
The veteran tactician also welcomed the fact that most of
last season’s squad has been retained, noting that familiarity within the team
will be a major advantage.
“We have a very strong team because most of the players have
been together for a long time. They understand each other, which makes it
easier for them to complement one another during matches,” he added.
Despite the optimism, Wamanga expects a tougher season after
Kakamega High lost in the regional semi-finals to eventual champions Vihiga
High School last year.
“The competition is expected to be very high because most top teams have strengthened their squads and will be bringing their A game. But we are ready for the challenge,” he said.
