Kakamega Homeboyz Team Manager Boniface Imbenzi has expressed delight at the return of head coach Patrick Odhiambo, backing him to guide the side to greater heights in the upcoming 2025/26 FKF Premier League season.

Odhiambo, who previously managed Homeboyz before a stint with KCB FC, returns to the Kakamega-based club following the departure of Francis Barasa to Tanzania.

“I think we will have a wonderful season under our new coach Patrick Odhiambo, who has just returned from KCB,” said Imbenzi. “We have managed to retain a big number of first-team players, so it’s just about reinforcing a few positions and then we’ll be ready for the new season.”

According to Imbenzi, Odhiambo’s return was a natural choice once his contract with KCB expired.

“Patrick Odhiambo has returned because we parted ways on good terms, and when his contract with KCB ended, it was an easy decision to go for him again. Our coach Francis Barasa left for Tanzania, so we had to move quickly for a replacement.”

Homeboyz have, however, suffered key departures, with striker Moses Shumah joining Zambia’s Power Dynamos and defender Brian Eshihanda Munyendo signing for Tanzania’s Bamba Jiji.

“There is Moses Shumah who joined Power Dynamo in Zambia and defender Brian Eshihanda Munyendo who left for Bamba Jiji in Tanzania,” noted Imbenzi. “As you are aware, everyone dreams of greener pastures. When a door opens, it would be inhuman to block someone from pursuing his ambitions. They’ve decided to go professional, and we have to wish them well.”

Despite the exits, Imbenzi is optimistic that with reinforcements, Homeboyz will remain competitive. Last season, the club finished third with 58 points, seven behind champions Kenya Police FC.
