Kakamega into FEASSSA quarters, Laiser shine
High school football powerhouse Kakamega High became the first Kenyan side to book a quarterfinals spot at the ongoing Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) in Uganda.
Chris onyango’s solo strike in the 35th minute helped Kakamega edge Tanzania’s Alliance Rock 1-0 in Gulu as the competition entered Day on Monday.
The win followed their opening 2-1 win over Uganda’s Jinja on Sunday with Henry Juma bagging both goals for the Kenyan side.
In girls’ volleyball, Cheptil who failed to win the national title last month following a 3-0 loss to Kwanthanze, easily beat Trust Secondary School of Uganda by three straight sets to nil (25-17, 25-15 25-14).
Their boys’ counterparts failed to capitalize on a two-sets lead were forced to labour before earning a 3-2 win (25-18 25-19 18-25 26-28 17-15) over PS Karubanda.
In boys’ rugby, national champions Kakamega got their regional title hunt with an emphatic 69-14 win over hosts Mbara High School as their Laiser Hill edged bitter rivals Upper Hill 12-7 in an all-Kenyan affair.
