Kangemi Ladies eye goal-scoring honours after relegation
After failing to survive the relegation chop, the Kenyan
Women Premier (KWPL) debutants Kangemi Ladies now hope golden boot honours for
striker Fasila Adhiambo will bring some cheer for the season.
Sunday’s defeat at the hands of Thika Queens at Ligi Ndogo
Grounds in Nairobi confirmed Kangemi’s relegation from the top-flight after an
underwhelming season in which they have lost 14 of their 18 matches played.
They sit bottom of the 12-team league standings with six
points but despite their struggles, Adhiambo has flourished to lead the goal-scoring
charts with 12 goals.
“It’s our first time to feature in the Premier League and we
have performed very poorly, something which I think was a result of lack of
experience from my players.
“All of my players are students at Dagoreti Mixed High School
in Nairobi and most of them can’t match the opposition from experienced teams
like Vihiga, Thika and the rest,” Orao said.
Orao said they will now do everything as a team to see
Adhiambo go all the way and win the golden boot.
“For the remaining matches, I urge my players to support
Adhiambo in emerging the league’s top scorer. She has been a revelation and we
hope to help her achieve that dream.”
Alukwe Puren of Zetech Saparks currently matches Adhiambo’s
goal record with 12 while Vihiga Queens’ Topister Situma comes second with 11 goals
with Nakuru City Queens pair Tereza Engesha and Nambagala Nyongesa have nine
goals each.
Kagemi will next host the champions Vihiga Queens in the next
fixture slated for Saturday at Ligi Ndogo Grounds in Nairobi.
