Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba is upbeat the
renovation and construction works at Nyayo, Kasarani and Talanta Sports City
stadiums will be completed on time.
Namwamba has tipped Talanta Sports City Stadium to be
ready by December 2025, ahead of CAF inspections.
The ongoing constructions are aimed at getting Kenya
ready to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with Namwamba reiterating the
smooth progress of the renovations.
The Talanta Sports City ultramodern complex at Jamhuri
Grounds in Nairobi is set to host 60,000 fans when ready.
"We are confident that the speed
that is currently being considered for the construction of Talanta Stadium puts
us in a good place to ensure that we complete the work by December 2025 as we
said at the beginning.
“And even the renovation that is going
on in the Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums is also going on at a very good
pace." said Ababu.
The
state-of-the-art facility is a key part of Kenya's infrastructure development
program and is earmarked to stage high profile AFCON 2027 as the nation
prepares to co-host the football extravaganza alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
The CS said the government is
committed to adhering to the planned constructions, with regular high-level
inspections to monitor progress emphasizing the importance of creating a
world-class sports city that will serve as a source of pride for Kenya and the
region.
This aligns with the flagship
#TalantaHela program, which aims to nurture sports talent, promote healthy
lifestyles, and create a center for sporting events where dreams come true and
champions are born.
