The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has picked Moi Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi as the host of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) Final on August 30.

Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam will stage the opening match on August 2 as the championship makes a historic return to the East African soil for the first time since the 2016 edition held in Rwanda.

The other co-hosts Uganda has been designated to host the third and fourth match of the event which is tailor-made for domestic-based players.

The championship was initially set to be held from February 1 to 28 but was delayed to give the hosting nations time to ensure facilities are ready.

The three countries will use CHAN as a dress-rehearsal for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which will also be co-hosted by the three East African countries.

Apart from Kasarani, Nyayo Stadium, which is also undergoing renovations, will stage some matches during the three-week event.

In a significant and inclusive gesture, Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium was named as one of the official venues with the decision highlighting CAF’s intention to expand the geographical reach of its major tournaments.

Amaan Stadium recently gained international attention after successfully hosting the CAF Confederation Cup Final in May 2025 pitting Simba SC and RSB Berkane, earning praise for its organization and fan support.

The group stage matches will be distributed across the four host cities with Nairobi playing host to Group A matches featuring Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia.

Dar es Salaam will host Group B fixtures of Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic while Kampala stages Group C matches, consisting of Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria.

Zanzibar rounds out the group stage hosts with Group D, featuring Senegal, Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria.

Notably, Congo replaced Equatorial Guinea in Group D following a CAF Appeals Board ruling.
