Red-hot Equity Dumas defeated former champions Ulinzi Warriors 69-59 in a hotly contested men's national basketball premier league match staged at the Nyayo Gymnasium in Nairobi on Sunday.

The win moved the Bankers to fourth position on the league standings with 11 points after winning five games and losing one six matches into the season.

Ulinzi stayed the top of the league with 14 points despite the loss. They have won six matches and lost two.

Faisal Aden  was at his pulling strings best, scoring a game- high of 28 points as Cliff Alela and Victor Ochieng  added 12 and 11 points respectfully.

Stephan Simiyu and  Eric Mutoro were Ulinzi's shining stars dropping 23 points combined.

Ulinzi got out to a good start in the first quarter,  winning  11-06 but were outscored 24-15 in a disastrous second-quarter with Equity taking the lead of 30-26 at the break.

After the break, the soldiers tried to pull back winning third quarter narrowly 20-19 but the Dumas winded up with a 20-13 win in the last quarter to take the game to 69-59 at the final buzzer.

Equity's head coach Carrey Odhiambo was delightful for the win.

"I am happy for the team; we didn't start the game well as we were not sure with the ball but we made adjustments and got ourselves back in the game," Odhiambo said.

On his part Ulinzi head coach Bernard Mufutu blamed defense for the loss.

"It was an entertaining match though unfortunately we lost. Our biggest undoing was on rotational defense as we gave up so many free throws," Mufutu said.
