KBF giants Ulinzi Warriors, KPA set for weekend clash

The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men premier league Ulinzi Warriors and KPA will clash at the Nyayo Gymnasium on Sunday in what promises to be a high-octane contest.

Champions Ulinzi warriors demolished KPA last season when the two met in the KBF semi-finals playoffs as they went on to clinch the title.

KPA head coach Sammy Kiki, whose side had won the KBF crown for three seasons before their defeat last year, says they are ready for the task ahead of them.

“We’re going to pick up from where we were last time since we are improving game by game. They are always on our necks whenever we play them and we expect them to come very strong at us after losing last weekend,” Kiki said.

Ulinzi go into the clash on the back of a loss to Lakeside but head coach William Balozi said they have moved on, adding they are happy to be back to playing indoor basketball.

Ancent Wafula and Joseph Khaemba who missed last weekend are back in the soldiers’ squad.

The Dockers are unbeaten after having played three games against EMYBA, KCA University and Lakeside winning all of them while Ulinzi have played five games winning four of them and losing one. The soldiers defeated Blades, Eldonets, KCA University and Umoja before losing to Lakeside last weekend.

The game will be played on Sunday at 4:00 PM at Nyayo gymnasium.

Meanwhile, Strathmore University’s Blades head Tony Ochieng whose side will also be meeting KPA on Saturday said despite KPA having unbeaten run he doesn’t fear them and will handle them as any other team

“We have had a good training. I will handle KPA as any other team and hoping for nothing but a win,” Ochieng said.

Blades have so far played three matches, winning against KCA University and Umoja and losing against Ulinzi.

The game will be played on Saturday at Nyayo Gymnasium from 4:00 PM.
