KCB crush Quins to set up Kabras final showdown

KCB RFC set up a repeat Kenya Cup final with Kabras Sugar RFC after crushing Kenya Harlequins 46-13 in Saturday’s semi-finals.

Kenyan international Andrew Amonde scored a brace to inspire the defending champions past Harlequins who dominated the proceedings at the Nairobi Grounds in Nairobi.

It will be a repeat of last years finals as the bankers play Kabras Sugar at the ASK showground, Kakamega next weekend after the Henley Du Plessis charges won 23-11 against Mwamba Rfc in the other last four clash.

Curtis Olago coached side came out victorious in last season’s finals winning 29-24 against Kabars coached by the then head coach Charles Cardovillis currently at Kenya Harlequins.

KCB will be hunting for their sixth title in the Kenya Cup history and a third in a row after winning in 2017 and last year while Kabras will be looking for their second title after winning their only Kenya Cup trophy in 2016.

The victorios side will pocket Ksh 1 million while the runners up will go home with Ksh. 600,000.

KCB scored six tries converting five plus two penalties against Quins two unconverted tries plus a penalty.

The bankers were leading 19-3 by halftime after scoring two converted tries plus one unconverted against Quins penalty.

Playing at their home ground, KCB started the best team with the Kenya international Andrew Amonde going over with the conversion going short for a 5-0 lead.

Good co-ordination and an outstanding interplay between center Ken Isaiah Moseti, Winger Peter Kilonzo and Isaac Njoroge saw the bankers extend their lead to 12-0.

Cardovillis coached side registered their first points in the score board through Eric Shikuku who scored a penalty to make it 12-3.

Samuela Asati got a line break that saw magnificent Amonde land his brace to ensure KCB lead 19-3.

Shujaa’s captain Jacob Ojee scored a penalty for the bankers to make it 22-3 some minutes after halftime break.

Quins landed their first try in the match as Peter Misango went over the goal line after collecting a pass from Shikuku but the conversion drifted wide to make it 8-22.

The defending champions landed their fourth try of the match as they went over the whitewash off a maul, Ojee adding the twos for a 29-8 lead.

Quins once again conceded a penalty, with Ojee sure with his boot adding the twos to make it 32-8 for the home side.

Kenya international Eden Agero who captained Shujaa in the Dubai and Cape Town Sevens this Season in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series swang past the KCB defense to land Quins second try with the conversion going short to make it 13-32.

Kenya international winger Vincent Onyala broke the Quins defense offloading to Njoroge who scored his brace with Ojee converting it to make it 39-13.

Griffin Musila made sure his name was in the score board scoring the bankers sixth try Ojee adding the twos to end the match 46-13.
