KCB power past Postbank to storm Kenya Cup semis

KCB Women's volleyball team delivered a commanding performance as they swept aside Postbank three sets to nil (25-15, 25-14, and 25-23) in a dominant Kenya Cup quarterfinal clash.
Playing at the Nyayo Stadium indoor arena, the Bankers
barely broke a sweat in the opening two sets, outclassing their opponents with
precision attacks and solid blocks.
The third set, however, was a different story - Postbank
came alive and pushed KCB to the brink, with an attempt to win the lone
remaining set leading for most of the set but eventually fell short as the more
experienced KCB side edged those 25-23 to seal the win.
Speaking after the match, KCB head coach Japheth Muniala
expressed satisfaction with the result but admitted his focus remains on
rebuilding.
“This win is big for
us especially moving into the semifinals we are in the process of rebuilding
and bringing the team back to its top level,” he said.
The Kenya Cup presents a vital opportunity for KCB to
salvage a season that has fallen below expectations more so in the league where
they were knocked out by champions Kenya Pipeline in the cup semi-finals.
Team captain coach Edith Wissa remained optimistic and
motivated her team to remain consistent with their performances going to the
semis where they will face even tougher opponents.
“I am very happy with the team’s performance, the girls gave
their wall and moving into the semis we have the intent of winning the cup.”
Postbank coach Vernon Kainga on the other hand disappointed
with the loss, took pride in his team’s effort.
“We are a young team.
What they showed, especially in that last set, gives me a lot of hope for the
future,” he said.
In other quarterfinal action, Kenya Prisons dominated Kenya
Army in straight sets (25-12, 25-15, and 25-15) to book a semifinal spot. DCI became the final team to book a semifinal
ticket after a hard-fought 3-1 win over Kenya Defense Forces (22-25, 25-23,
25-10, 25-15), overturning an early deficit with resilience and skill.
The Kenya Cup women's semifinals, slated for July 12–13,
will feature KCB facing Prisons while league cup finalists DCI face Kenya
Pipeline who earned automatic qualification to the semis.
