KCB Women’s volleyball team defeated Kenya Pipeline 3-1 in its last match of the 4th leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) at the Nyayo Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The pulsating encounter saw Kenya Pipeline take the upper
hand in the first set winning 25-22 before the bankers won the subsequent sets
25-16, 25-16 and 25-12 to secure a playoffs spot in the current league.
The loss in the first set was a wake-up call for the
Lionesses who upped their game with Juliana Namutira, Esther Mutinda and
youngster Pauline Chemutai making the difference.
Head Coach Japheth Munala said: “I am proud of the girls for
putting on a show and finally getting my revenge back at Kenya Pipeline who
have beaten us thrice in our last three encounters. The incorporation of youngsters
like Pauline Chemutai gave us more power today and Esther Mutinda is a force to
reckon with, she motivated and pushed the team forward. I am very happy for
this win.”
The win was KCB’s third victory this weekend in the 4th leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation league having thrashed Nairobi Prisons 3-0 on Friday.
“We have been excellent today. The team was very much ready
for this clash having lost to them a couple of times. Everyone did her part and
executed perfectly. Our focus shifts to the upcoming league playoffs which we
want to approach it tactfully and win the title in the end,” said an ecstatic
KCB Captain Edith Wisa.
The team will now await confirmation from the federation on whom
they are going to play against in the forthcoming playoffs.
