KCB volleyball team fired up ahead of league, Africa assignments

KCB women’s volleyball team has stepped up preparations as the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League and the African Clubs Championship assignments edge closer.

Head coach Japheth Munala has been fine-tuning his charges ahead of the league’s resumption early next month through friendly matches and intense training sessions.

The Bankers, who finished runners up last season behind Kenya Prisons, have only played one league match this season against Vihiga County in February.

Outside hitter Mercy Moim believes her team is ready for the league’s return where they are scheduled to face Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on April 30 and Kenya Prisons May 1 in the fourth leg.

“We’re focused and everyone is ready and this season we really believe we will challenge for the title. Our fans should expect good results this season,” said Moim, who is also the national team captain.

The team is also preparing for the annual African Club Championship due May 19th to June 1st in Tunis, Tunisia. Captain Edith Wisah is impressed with the attitude and the renewed resolve by the playing unit to improve their performance this season.

“Last year we missed the title and I’m happy we’re speaking with one voice and our intentions are the same, to win the league title. We will make our fans proud,” she said.

The two however expressed dissatisfaction with the Kenya Volleyball Federation for late fixtures saying the delay in releasing the order of the matches has been a challenge when preparing for next fixtures.

“Sometimes we train with our opponents in mind so the federation should ensure the fixtures are out in advance. We train without knowing who we’re going to play next,” added Wisah.

Defending champions Kenya Prisons top the league with six points after two matches and continue with the title charge against Vihiga County team on May 1 at the Nyayo Gymnasium.

Former champions Kenya Pipeline, who also have six points same as Prisons but inferior set ratio difference, will also play Vihiga County on April 30.
