KEFORA Nairobi chair Obare implores FKF delegates to elect the right leader
Kenya Football Referees Association (KEFORA) Nairobi
branch chairperson Richard Obare has implored Football Kenya Federation (FKF) delegate
members to make sound decisions by choosing the right leadership for the sport
in the country in the upcoming elections.
Obare has also lamented the plight of referees,
asserting that it is difficult to develop the game on the basis of fairness and
professional performance when referees’ dues are not paid on time.
“Can you run a league without paying
the referees their dues for seven months? And you expect them to crisscross
this country and go and officiate efficiently?
“We are seeing this as a total mess
and we now have to get this thing right. And to get it right and
correct we have to get the elections done in a proper manner,” said Obare.
A section of football stakeholders wants
the forthcoming Football Kenya Federations to be conducted by the Independent
Electoral and Boundary Commission as opposed to an FKF Electoral Board which
they feel will not guarantee a free, fair transparent exercise.
They also questioned the proposed use
of the FKF Electoral Code 2020, especially after sections of the Code were
termed unconstitutional by the Sports Disputes Tribunal.
National
Executive Committee (NEC) member aspirant Charity Wang’oma feels the best way
to run the polls is by engaging the Independent Electoral and Boundaries
Commission, urging office holders to respect the term limit rule.
“We want IEBC, an independent body, to
oversee the elections. We cannot trust an FKF electoral board. We are also
asking that the term limit should be respected.” Said Charity.
