Kenya beach volleyball teams out to seal Africa Games finals slots

The national men and women’s beach volleyball teams will be eyeing to seal Africa Games finals tickets Wednesday when the two sides take to the courts in the quarters and semi finals in Accra, Ghana.

Seasoned Gaudencia Makokha and her new partner Yvonne Wavinya face Egypt’s duo Marwa Magdy and Doaa Tawfik at 1pm in one of the four women’s quarter finals ties.

The pair of Jairus Kipkosgei and Elphas Makuto will be seeking to storm the men’s semis when they play South Africa’s Leo Williams and Danilo Von Ludwiger at 12pm.

The semis will be played later on Wednesday at the same venue.

The women’s team has maintained a hundred percent perfect start following an identical 2-0 sets wins against Mauritius and Benin in Pool E.

The Kenyan ladies will be hoping to go one better than the last edition of the tournament in 2019 when they clinched silver after losing to Egypt in the final.

The men’s side, who are playing the Africa Games for the first time, began their campaign with a 0-2 loss (13-21, 19-21) in their Group E opener before righting wrongs in the second match to beat Gambia.

They then beat Rwanda in the elimination stage to book a quarter final berth.
