Kenya’s national netball team, The Divas, delivered a stunning performance in Dubai on Tuesday, routing the USA 66–25 to revive their hopes at the UAE Netball Tournament.

Coming off two narrow defeats, 41–33 to Namibia and 42–40 to Singapore, Kenya approached the game with urgency and purpose. From the opening whistle, The Divas dominated, racing to a 17–3 lead in the first quarter, powered by the attacking duo of Delilah Akinyi and Hellen Sinoya.

Early in the second quarter, Akinyi was forced off with an injury, but her replacement, Lucy Akumu, seamlessly kept the momentum going. By halftime, Kenya had stretched their lead to 34–9, thanks to their decisive attack and strong defensive discipline.

Coach Mugisha Ali was forced into further substitutions after Elsa Ndong, playing Wing Attack, sustained a knock. Vida Adhiambo replaced her, while Mary Onyango came on at Centre in place of Irine Atieno. Nevertheless, Kenya remained in control, finishing the third quarter 54–17.

The final quarter was no different, with Kenya extending their lead to a comfortable 66–25 in what was their most convincing display of the competition.

Speaking after the match, Coach Ali applauded his team’s depth and discipline.

“It was a tough, physical match. We lost two players to injury, but our bench stepped up brilliantly. Our defensive line held strong, and our attack was clinical. Let us see what happens in the match between UAE and Singapore, If at all Singapore are beaten we have a shot at the final ,If they win we go for the Bronze medal.”

Goal attacker and Assistant Captain Hellen Sinoya credited the team’s unity and reduced mistakes for their success and called on her teammates to stick to the plan for their next match against Ireland.

“We transitioned well from defense to attack, the game flowed smoothly, and that made all the difference. In our next match, let's stick to the game plan, open up, be composed, and win it.” Said confidently.

Kenya’s path to the finals now depends on their results against UAE and Ireland in the remaining group matches. Mugisha hopes his team will be determined to keep their momentum alive.
