Kenya edges South Africa in trips lawn bowling

The Kenya women’s lawn bowling team has registered a 15 – 11 win against South Africa in the trips as the lawn bowling Africa States Tournament entered day four after successfully thumbing Zambia 21-10 on Thursday, August 22 at the Nairobi Club.

The team involving Fridah Mwangi, Christine Mbae and skip Esther Walker took the lead from first end in the competitive 18 end game dominating the rest of the ends which made them win against the south African side.

Being led by their Skip Walker, Kenya took the lead in the first end and managed to dominate the rest of the ends, by bowling with good weight to draw the jack in the competitive 18 end game.

With Kenya leading 14 – 11 in the last end, skipper Esther opted not to play her last bowl to as it would have made them loss thier shots to South Africa thus ending the play acquire on point.

On the other end Kenyan team lead by Susan Wambugu and Celestine Masila suffered 21-11 loss against South Africa in the women’s pairs category.

This is the second loss to the pairs team having won 23-5 against Zambia on Thursday, August 23 and will still have to play Botswana and Zimbabwe to battle for the medals.

Susan Wambugu, one of the pairs players believes that their quest for AST is still on even after losing against South Africa as they will not lose hope but instead work more on their concentrations to be able to get right speed and game line on the green

” The game is more of mental so we just have to make sure we win against Botswana and Zimbabwe, having played against then in the fours I am confident that we will dominate whatsoever, we lost but we will improve to acquire medals,” said Susan.

The Kenya men’s team at the Karen Country Club have won all their games in the singles and fours category against South Africa in the morning session.

Despite South Africa women’s team winning against Kenya, the men were on a disastrous start in the morning session losing 21- 12 in singles category and 15-14 in the fours category.
