A former Kenya international and long-serving Harlequins stalwart, Agunda, assumes the role with immediate effect. His promotion follows years of dedicated service on the club’s technical bench, where he has held various roles, including skills coach, 7s coach, and assistant coach. Most recently, he guided the Quins women's team to the semi-finals in their debut season.
“I’m honoured to take up this role. We have great potential, and I’m ready to build on our legacy,” Agunda said following the announcement.
In 2024, Agunda participated in an elite coaching exchange programme with the Japanese national rugby team—an experience the club believes will shape his coaching philosophy and further his development.
Agunda enjoyed a decorated 15-season playing career at Kenya Harlequins, including five years as captain. His honours include three Kenya Cup titles, three Rugby Super Series wins, an Enterprise Cup, and a National Sevens Circuit title. He was inducted into the club’s Roll of Honour in 2014.
On the international stage, Agunda represented Kenya in both 15s and 7s formats, earning caps with the Kenya Simbas and Shujaa. He featured in the 2013 Rugby Sevens World Cup, the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and captained regional sides such as the Elgon Warriors in 2021.
Kenya Harlequin Chairman Victor Sudi expressed confidence in Agunda’s leadership:
"Kenya Harlequin FC has a long tradition of developing high-level, professional rugby coaches for both club and country. Four years ago, we began a strategy to groom our next generation of coaches. We are delighted that Patrice takes over as Head Coach and wish him and his team all the best.”
