Kenya names beach volleyball squad for C’wealth Games qualifiers
Seasoned Gaudencia Makokha and ever-green Ibrahim
Oduor will headline the national women and men beach volleyball squads
announced today by the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) for the African
Commonwealth Games qualifiers set for next week in Accra, Ghana.
Makokha will pair fellow Olympian Brackcides Agala
in the women’s team while Oduor was drafted alongside James Mwaniki in the
men’s side for the March 24-29 qualifiers.
The pair of Veronica Adhiambo and Naomi Too
completes the women's team while the men's side also has GSU setter Nicholas
Langat who will partner with Donald Mchete.
Phosca Kasisi and Yvonne Wavinya have been axed
from the final women’s side while the pair of Elphas Makuto and Jairus
Jepkosgei have also been left out.
The provisional squad has been fine tuning their
skills at the Azul Margerita hotel in Mombasa for the last two weeks.
The teams leave the country on Sunday ahead of the championship which has attracted 24 teams.
Two slots, one for each gender, are
up for grabs for the Games scheduled for July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham.
