Kenya Prisons had to be contended with a bronze medal as men's African Volleyball club championship's curtains came down on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt.

The Kenya Volleyball Federation men's league reigning champions had to dig deep to spank Libya's Al Naser SC Club 3-2 in a pulsating five set thriller at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Arena.

Prisons had a slow start, watching in despair as the first set went to Al Naser in a 25-23 defeat.

However, the local champions came back with a different gear, reigning supreme in the second and third sets, winning 25-19 and 25-17 respectively to take the lead.

Prisons then lost their spark in the fourth set, falling 25-18 to allow their rivals back in the game, threatening to spoil the party.

The fifth set produced fireworks as Prisons reclaimed their mojo at the dyer moment, producing an emphatic display to thump Al Naser 15-13 in the nervy ending clash.

The Dennis Mokua led charges proved their mettle at the international stage, becoming the only Kenyan men's team to appear in the medal bracket twice, with the last one coming in 2011 where they bagged a silver medal.

Prisons were making a comeback to the international scene after five years in the cold.

Other Kenyan giants Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) finished seventh after dethroning Cameroon's Port Autonome de Douala 3-1 while Equity Bank volleyball club finished distant 11th.

Hosts Al Ahly volleyball club were crowned this year's champions after edging  defending champions Mouloudia Sportive de Bou Salem of Tunisia 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18) in a scintillating climactic finale.
