Kenya under pressure to set up anti-doping agency

The World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) is working with the Norway and Chinese Anti-Doping Agencies to aid with the development of the Kenyan Anti-Doping Program.

While progress is being made, a lot still needs to be done in light of the recent doping allegations that have dogged Kenyan athletics.

WADA needs the Kenyan Government to commit to the development of The National Anti Doping Organization (NADO).

Although Kenya has been slow in implementing the anti-doping policy, WADA expects concrete plans from the Government to fund NADO and the finalization of Kenya’s anti-doping policy.

WADA also confirms that it will attend a meeting in Kenya in February to evaluate the progress that has been made, and decide what steps to take.

This comes even as it (WADA) released a second report on the state of doping by athletes. The report criticizes the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) of covering up the doping cases by Russian athletes.

The report says that former IAAF President Lamine Diack was responsible for the high rates of doping that stemmed from deeply rooted corruption in the organization.
