Kenyan boxers rudderless on hyping fights, says Tanzanian pugilist Mandonga
The pre-fight was dominated by Mandonga owing to his outbursts, noting that he was coming to Kenya to throw punches on his opponent.
And he made good his threat to win the weeknd match on technical knockout of Wanyonyi and he notes Kenyans have a long way to go as far as marketing the game is concerned.
"Blah! Blah! Is a must to promote the boxing game so that people come in large numbers to attend the fights,” he said in an emotional outburst after he ebat his Kenyan opponent Wanyonyi in the Saturady night bout. “Many boxers don’t know how to hype bouts, how many boxers have you interviewed here and they spoke like me? No boxer can promote boxing here. Now I am going back to Tanzania and I will return to Nairobi in April to bury someone. After the first round I will ask where his grave is, we put him there. I will come with another punch, not 'Sugunyo' anymore." Mandonga said.
"I told you that Wanyonyi will be beaten whether he likes it or not. This punch I came with was from Ukraine and it’s called 'Sungunyooo', this work’s anywhere. ‘Mtu Kazi’ is a hardworking man, he does not leave debts where he works, his mouth is to promote a fight and when I enter the ring, the fist does its job and that’s why 'Sugunyo' did its job,” he added.
Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) President Reuben Ndolo, Secretary-General Franklin Imbenzi and Promoter Mike Odongo of Solid Rock Promotions were all elated by the huge turnout at KICC and there are plasn to have Mandonga back on Kenyan soil for another fight.
