The national men’s lacrosse team has intensified preparations
ahead of Sunday’s deciding match against Uganda at Kenton College in Kileleshwa,
Nairobi.
The winner will secure the sole ticket to represent Africa at
next year’s World Lacrosse Championships in San Diego, California.
According to Kenya Lacrosse Federation President Cosmas
Nabongolo, all preparations for the match are complete and the Ugandan side is
expected to jet into the country today.
“The winner between Kenya and Uganda will have the
opportunity to represent the continent in San Diego. As we speak other
continents are also conducting their qualifiers,” Nabongolo said.
The Kenyan team has been undergoing some vigorous training
and have also played a couple of international friendlies in preparation for
the match.
Lacrosse is a new game in the country and involves two teams
of ten players each contending for the ball using sticks with nets which are
used to hit, roll or carry the ball.
It is slowly gaining momentum in Africa with countries like
Ghana, South Africa, Kenya and Uganda already playing.
