Kericho EALASCA Games postponed

The much awaited East African Local Authorities Sports Culture Association (EALASCA) Games that would have been staged in Kericho County have been postponed indefinitely after Burundi and Uganda pulled-out in the eleventh hour.

The two nations are said to have communicated with the organizers confirming withdrawal, from the games that would have been the first ever international games to be held in the county citing logistical problems.

The games were set to kickoff on Monday, and run up to  Sunday December 23.

Announcing the development, Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony said Uganda and Burundi have requested to be postponed to another date.

“It would no longer be prudent for Kericho to host the games since it would not have been competitive after Burundi and Uganda pulled-out of the games,” said KICOSCA.

Governor Chepkwony who also chairs Culture and Sports Committee at the Council of Governor is hopefully the county will still host the games when another opportunity comes calling.

According to governor Chepkwony, Tanzania and other countries had confirmed sending their participants for the games.

Four countries were to take part in the games, they were, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and host Kenya (Kericho).

Athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, indoor games and cultural events were expected to constitute the fiesta.
