Ex-AFC Leopards captain Antony ‘Modo’ Kimani is
emerging as a hot favourite to replace Patrick Aussems as the club’s new head
coach as hunt for a new tactician begins in earnest.
Aussems, a Belgian national walked out on the club on
Monday, making it known he won’t renew his contract with the big cats.
He handled Ingwe for two years, an underwhelming campaign
which saw the club fail to clinch any silverware.
And now Kimani who previously handled the team on
interim basis is being tipped to make an emotional return to the club’s dugout.
Kimani is a free-agent having been sacked last term by Bandari.
Club Chairman Dan Shikanda is however tight-lipped on
the links even as the club’s top brass meet on Wednesday to deliberate on the
matter.
However, speaking to Citizen Digital on phone from the United Kingdom, Kimani refused to
comment on the links, at least for now.
"Hahaha, so there is good news in the atmosphere
you say? On that matter I don't want to comment for now,” he told Citizen Digital when reached out. “Currently
I'm not in the country, I'm in the United Kingdom,” Kimani said, before
disconnecting the call.
Kimani was in charge of the 12-time league champions
in 2021 on an interim basis when the Belgian took over, with the former
Leopards player leaving to join Bandari FC to deputize Casa Mbungo, at the time
the head coach of Coast-based outfit.
Leopards finished seventh last season with 51 points
but are yet to win a league title since 1998.
