Kenyan FIA rally star McRae Kimathi has grown in leaps and bounds since he burst into the rallying scene in Kenya and is using experience gained along the way in this year's WRC Safari Rally.

Kimathi who was the first Kenyan to compete in the FIA junior WRC championship back in 2022 is competing in the WRC3 category alongside fellow FIA rally starts Jeremy Wahome and Hamza Anwar and he says he is taking it stage at a time.

"You have to drive sensibly, you have to drive clean; you have to pace yourself, you don't have to be very very fast so yeah those are some of the things I have learnt in the Safari, so let's see if it works this time; I am trying to do a calculated rally."

A lot of drivers struggled with punctures yesterday (Friday) and Kimathi was no exception as he suffered double puncture in the Kedong stage but he says he will have to survive through it all.

"There are big big problems; punctures have been a big issue but it's something we will have to deal with Pirelli (Tyre manufacturer) but apart from that maybe the rain will be an issue but I prefer the wet conditions."

Kimathi who is navigated by experienced Mwangi Kioni ended day two third in the Ford Fiesta rally 3 cars category 2.09.5 behind Diego Dominguez and Jason Bailey.
