Commonwealth Games 5000m silver medalist Nicholas Kimeli triumphed in the men's 10,000m as the World Championships trials kicked off Friday afternoon at the Nyayo Stadium.
Kimeli clocked 27 minutes, 29.84 seconds to win the 25-lap race ahead of Daniel Simiu who finished second as Bernard Kibet settled for the third spot.
Kimeli, who is the reigning Diamond League winner in the 5000m says he is yet to decide if he will do both events in Budapest.
"It was just about controlling the pace of the race and we did very well with my friend Simiu. Our target is to work as a team in Budapest and bring the medals home," said Kimeli.
The in-form Simiu who triumphed in the national championships a fortnight ago said he is eyeing a podium finish in Budapest.
