Kip Keino Classic: Yego sets personal best record as he settles for silver

Julis Yego, the 2015 world javelin champion managed a personal best throw of 79.59m to finish second at the Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour meet.

The men's javelin throw got the event underway at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Saturday afternoon.

After managing a throw of 76m during the national championships a fortnight ago, Yego was impressed by his throw today.

"I think I am back now. I feel I am now fit and ready to return to my best. My target was to throw over 80m and though I didn't make it, I am happy with my performance today.

"I am ready for championships after being out for so long" he said.

Ihab Abdelrahman of Egypt took victory with a throw of 83.79m while Johann Grobler of South Africa settled for third in 79.11m

"I am pleased with the result, a season best for me. It is still the start of the season and I know I cab still do better," he said.

Another Kenyan Alexander Kiprotich finished seventh with a throw of 75.04m

Meanwhile, speaking at the Kasarani Stadium, President Uhuru Kenyatta who is among the dignitaries reiterated Kenya’s ambition to host the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
