Kipchoge INEOS159 record bid sets internet abuzz
Eliud Kipchoge’s bid to run a marathon under two hours has captured the attention of a nation and indeed that of the entire world with three days now left until the record attempt dubbed INEOS159 in Vienna, Austria.
Organisers have pulled all stops to ensure the Olympic champion has a an optimum platform on which to race with either of October 12, 13 or 14 set as the preferred date depending on the weather.
Kipchoge has repeatedly stated he is driven by a personal ambition to inspire mankind that ‘no human is limited’ and recently said such an accomplishment would be comparable to standing on the moon or scaling Everest for the first time.
Any sub-two hour time will not be ratified for record purposes by the IAAF, the governing body of athletics, because of the use of pacemakers and other aids but the attempt has nonetheless drawn spectacular global attention.
Using the hash tag, #KipchogeINEOSChallenge which was a top trend for the better part of Tuesday, Kenyans tweeted messages of encouragement to the widely regarded greatest marathoner of the modern era terming his attempt saying his attempt will bring a sense of pride, fame, and unity to all Kenyans regardless of their tribes, race, or class.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed who visited the London Marathon champion at his training camp in Kaptagat last month, led Kenyans in the social media to pray for the marathoner who landed in style in Austria Tuesday morning.
Amina views Kipchoge’s attempt as a kin to breaking every limited belief in the capacity of human endurance.
Here are some of the Kenyans tweets directed at the world marathon record holder.
