Kipyegon, Korir and Moraa claim Diamond League trophies

Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon bagged her third Diamond League trophy after racing to victory in the final held Thursday night in Zurich, Switzerland.

Kipyegon clocked 4:00.44 to also clinch back-to-back trophies and cap a successful season that also saw her reclaim the world title and also miss out the world record by a whisker.

Olympic 800m champion Emmanuel Korir continued his dominance over the two-lap race as he won the trophy for the second season running. To put the icing on the cake the world champion also ran a world leading time of 1:43.26.

In the women’s 800m race, Mary Moraa rounded off a breathrough season with yet another scintillating performance that saw her claim her maiden trophy after storming to victory in 1:57.63.

She also clinched bronze in World Championships and a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Olympic 1500m silver medallist  Timothy Cheruiyot winning streak at the prestigious series was brought to an end after Jakob Ingebrigtsen claimed victory in a world leading 3:29.02. Cheruiyot who was eyeing his fifth consecutive trophy finished second in 3:30.27

Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco reigned supreme in 3000m steeplechase after clocking 8:07.67 ahead of Getnet Wale of Ethiopia who finished second in 8:08.56 as Commonwealth champion Abraham Kibiwott placed third in 8:08.61

The two-day final concluded an action-packed 12 legs of the one-day meetings that started in May.
