Kipyegon leads Chepchirchir into final, Kipsang and Cheruiyot through

Kenyan pair
of Faith Kipyegon and Nelly Chepchirchir secured their second consecutive wins
in respective heats as they stormed the 1500m final at the World Athletics Championships
in Budapest.
Kipyegon is
gunning for her third title at the world championships competed in the second
heat and once again demonstrated her class, destroying a deep field to claim
victory in 3:55.14.
Ethiopia's
Diribe Welteji finished second in 3:55.18 with Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands
coming home third in 3:55.18.
In the first
semi, youngster Chepchirchir took victory in 4:02.14 to also sail through to
the final slated for. Another Kenyan Edinah Jebitok bowed out after finishing a
distant 10th.
In the men's
race, Abel Kipsang and Reynold Cheruiyot will fly the Kenyan flag after former
world champion Timothy Cheruiyot failed to make it into the finals.
Kipsang
finished second in the first semi final after timing 3:32.72 behind Yared
Nuguse of USA (3:32.69).
On his part
Cheruiyot, the world under-20 champion placed sixth in the second semi final to
also qualify for the finals.
Olympic
silver medalist Cheruiyot placed ninth.
