Two-time Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon has made the final shortlist of five athletes who will battle it out for the 2023 Women's World Athlete of the Year award.
Kipyegon
made the final shortlist after the close of the voting process which was
subjected to the initial list of 10 athletes.
The four-time
world champion stands as the favourite to bag the award after a scintillating
season that saw her defend her world title in Budapest while also breaking
three world records over 1500m, 5000m and the mile in the Diamond League
series.
The 5000m
record was later smashed by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay at the final of the Diamond
League in Oregon.
She will
however face off with world marathon record holder Tigist Assefa of Ethiopia, world
400m hurdles champion Femke Bol of the Netherlands, world 200m champion and
100m silver medallist Shericka Jackson of Jamaica and world champion triple
jump champion Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela.
The winner
of the award will be announced on December 11.
