Koyonzo, Santa Maria reign supreme at 2025 scrummage Katch 7s

Koyonzo High School and Santa Maria Secondary stamped their
authority at the 2025 Scrummage Katch 7s, clinching the boys’ and girls’ titles,
respectively, during the second edition of the tournament staged at the ASK
Showgrounds in Kakamega.
In the boys’ final, Koyonzo displayed tactical brilliance to
edge out Kabras U19 with a 10-0 victory on a rain-soaked pitch. Rodgers Alukwe
broke the deadlock in the opening half, finishing off a slick move off a scrum
on the right wing. Beckham Wangila then put the result beyond doubt in the
second half, cutting through the defense after a structured play to seal the
win.
Their road to the title was nothing short of dramatic. In
the quarterfinals, Koyonzo edged past Kakamega School 10-5 in sudden death
after staging a comeback to force extra time. The semifinals also saw a
nail-biting contest, with St. Anthony’s Kitale needing sudden death to
eliminate Menengai High 15-10 after a 10-all draw in regulation time.
Elsewhere, Butere Boys, who had been flawless on Day One,
were stopped in their tracks in the quarters after a 14-0 defeat to St.
Anthony’s.
