Ulinzi Stars staged a brilliant comeback to defeat Sofapaka
3–1 in a tense Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash at the Kasarani Annex on Wednesday,
securing their second straight victory.
Sofapaka made a bright start, taking the lead in the 7th
minute through Douglas Kibet, who punished a defensive lapse from the soldiers.
The early goal energized the “Batoto Ba Mungu,” who controlled the early
exchanges with confidence.
Ulinzi slowly settled into the game and found their
equalizer in the 25th minute when Masuta Masita calmly slotted home, sending
the sides into the break level at 1–1.
Ulinzi returned with renewed intensity and took the lead in
the 58th minute through Paul Okoth’s powerful finish. The momentum stayed with
them, and Okoth bagging a brace and sealing the victory in the 74th minute,
extending the scoreline to 3–1.
Despite four minutes of added time and a late push from
Sofapaka, Ulinzi remained defensively solid to secure all three points.
The win lifts Ulinzi Stars to 9th place on the KPL log with
12 points from 10 matches—seven points behind league leaders Gor Mahia, who
still have two games in hand. Sofapaka drop to 14th with 11 points from 10
matches.
Ulinzi now shift focus to Bandari FC on Saturday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, while Sofapaka hope to bounce back against APS Bomet on Friday at the Kasarani Annex.
