Ebwali Secondary School will now have a chance to defend their County football title after emerging the champions of Luanda Sub-County Secondary School soccer games at Mumboha on Saturday.

The Vihiga County reigning football champions in the Secondary School Competitions qualified after successful zonal and Sub-County campaigns where they sailed through unbeaten.

In the Luanda Sub-County finals, Ebwali beat Ebubayi Secondary 4-0 to book a date with Hobunaka who had beaten Em’matsi 2-1.  Ebwali would then thrash Hobunaka 3-0 to lift the Luanda Cup although the two, Hobunaka and Ebwali will proceed to the County competitions next month in Kaimosi as top two Luanda teams.

“I believe the team is in a good shape bearing in mind so far so good Ebwali have conceded one goal only. We must prove to our opponents that we are able to do better even after our former coach joined Vihiga Boys High School,” Ebwali Assistant Coach Martin Alembi Peter said, after defeating Hobunaka.

On his side, Kevin John, Hobunaka Boys tactician decried injuries to be the reason as to why they failed to outsmart archrivals Ebwali.

“This was a derby. Every year we meet but Ebwali always beat us except for 2023 when we eliminated them at the sub-county group stages,” John stated, promising to rectify the mistakes they committed at the constituency level.

At the same time, Ibubi Girls FC alias Maroon Queens tactician Godfrey Omondi says his charges who have also sailed through unbeaten are looking forward to returning to the Western Region stage this year.

“The girls are motivated and determined to perform. Our objective is to go past semifinals in the regionals where Archbishop Njenga Girls eliminated us last year. Thus, playing in East Africa is our target,” Omondi stated after Ibubi rained on Khwiliba Girls 16-0 at Mumboha to clinch to successfully defend the sub-county title.

His assistant Peter Otieno mentioned lack of proper training facilities as the major challenge the team wants to surmount to meet this year’s set goals.
