Kwemoi stars as Oilers storm to Dala Sevens quarters

Kwemoi danced and ran rings around Kabras Sugar defence as the Nakuru-based Oilers ran three tries to beat Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar  21-14 in a tough and pulsating group B game at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu County.

Kwemoi who put his name on the  score-sheet going under the whitewash after darting on the left flank to touch down at the centre said that failure to lift the title would be a disappointment to their fans and rallied his team mates to rise to the occasion.

"Of course we were disappointed to lose in the final in Mombasa ( Driftwood Sevens) and the aim is to go a step higher," he told Citizen Digital, his face lighting up after masterminding the sweetly-savoured win after a nerve-wracking encounter.

He went on: " We're at Dala and we should win it, " he said with a smile, noting that his personal ambition is to make a return to the national sevens team Shujaa.

The pool matches conclude Saturday evening paving way for crunchy tackles on Sunday where the top giants would trade the swords in quarters, semis and finals, with an eye on the cup and the Sh100,000 prize money.

In other top division matches, Mwamba, the surprise champions of Driftwood Sevens topped Pool A after crushing Nondescripts 24-15, the two sides securing tickets to the quarter finals.

Meanwhile home side Kisumu RFC had a day to forget losing even to Nakuru RFC, falling19-14,  a match they should have won but they left their lines exposed allowing the visitors to rally from behind to level and win the match.
