The break resulted from the Harambee Starlets’ camp for the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) which was initially scheduled to kick off on March 17 in Morocco but was later postponed to mid-July.
The Boniface Nyamunyamuh-coached side has been in intensive preparation ahead of the showdown as they aim to secure maximum points which will elevate them to the summit of the league.
Vihiga who have played 15 matches so far are currently placed second on the log with 30 points, one point behind the leaders and defending champions Kenya Police Bullets who have played 13 matches.
Ulinzi Starlets, Zetech Sparks and Trinity Starlets round out the top five with 29, 28 and 28 points, respectively.
“The two-week break has given us time to prepare for the match and work on the striking department which was the only area we felt needs to be tightened.
“Madira is a school team which is preparing for the Secondary School games and they will be using the FKF Premier League fixtures as part of their preparations and we will not underrate them”
Nyamuh who took the mantle at Kidundu-based side in August 2021 following the exit of his predecessor Alex Alumira, welcomed the return of her two lethal forwards Martha Amunyolete and Irine Madalina who were with Harambee Starlets camp saying they will boost morale.
“It’s sad that the WAFCON tournament has been postponed because players were eagerly awaiting the opportunity but at some point, it is also a blessing to us because the two players will boost my squad and fuel our dream to win the title this season.
“I have three injuries so far: defenders Phanice Lwosi, Yvone Muyoka and Chrstine Awuor but having Amunyolete and Madalina in my squad gives me high hopes”.
Other Saturday fixtures will see Trinity Starlets take on Zetech Sparks at Comboni in Gilgil.
Kibera will play Gideon Starlets at Marist University in Karen while Kayole Starlets will host Ulinzi Starlets at Utalii grounds.
Kisped Queens will host the defending champions Kenya Police at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu.
