KYISA Games shelved by two weeks

The 2019 Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association Games (KYISA) earlier scheduled for November 30 to December 8 in Busia County have been postponed to December 14- 21.

According to the KYISA Local Organizing Committee (LOC) acting Chairman Patrice Lumumba, the inter-county championship was shelved to pave way for the East African Local Authority Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) Games to be held in Uganda from December 1-8.

The decision to postpone the annual event was reached on Thursday after the LOC met KYISA Secretariat led by Secretary General Ambrose Kisoi at a Busia hotel.

This year’s Games which will be the sixth edition will comprise of football, volleyball and basketball for both categories.

“The championship will offer the counties an opportunity to showcase youth talents and market the county in terms of cultural heritage, hospitality, social aspects and being the gateway to East and Central Africa. We are expecting all the counties to grace this year’s edition,” said Lumumba.

December 14 has been set as the arrival date for the participating counties, while the opening ceremony will take place on December 16.

The championship will be held in five venues in the western region based county; Busia stadium, St Mathias Busia Secondary, Our Lady of Mercy St Monica Chakol Girls, Lwanya Girls and Busia Township Vocational Training Centre.

“We shall also ensure there is adequate security, avail first aid facilities to participating teams and to provide adequate publicity for the games,” he added.

The championship features players below 25 years from the 47 counties.
