League Cup double hero Ibrahimovic takes a shot at Arsenal

After scoring twice including the late winner to help his Manchester United side to victory in the EFL Cup final, Zlatan Ibrahimovic wasted no time in taking a thinly-veiled shot at one of United’s rivals.

In what looked like a dig at Arsenal, Ibrahimovic pointed out that he had already won two trophies in his short spell at the Manchester outfit – the Community Shield and EFL Cup – more than some clubs had won in 10 years.

“Today is all about the win and getting the trophy, people remember who lift the trophy and not the one who did a fantastic game. We believe in something we are doing and we keep going, we keep training hard, we keep making sacrifice and we are winning.

“Like I said after seven months I have two trophies with this club, there is other clubs, they didn’t win for 10 years. I mean I won half of what they won in 10 years, so I am happy for that,” the Swedish striker said post-match.

United manager Jose Mourinho urged the club’s supporters to do whatever it takes to ensure star striker Ibrahimovic stays at the club for another season.

Speaking after Ibrahimovic scored twice to help his side win the EFL Cup, Mourinho admitted he wouldn’t beg the forward to extend his contract, but implored fans to visit Zlatan’s house to help convince him to stay.

“I never beg for a player to sign a contract, I never beg for a player to play for me. One day Zlatan decided to go to Barcelona [from Inter]. I was very sad, but I did nothing to try to stop him from going.

“I don’t beg for players but if needed, I think Manchester United fans can go to the door of his house and stay there all night if needed. I think they will go for sure. We want, we believe, that he is going to stay with us for one more season,” Mourinho said.
