Legendary coach Mwarangu to be buried Tuesday
Legendary boxing coach Peter Mwarangu will be buried at
Lang'ata Cemetery on Tuesday next week.
The secretary of the Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) David
Munuhe said a funeral service will be held at ACK Church Madaraka on the same
day.
He coached the Kenyan boxing team for 40 years from the 60’s
to the 90’s guiding Kenyan boxers to win a record eight gold medals at the 1987
All Africa Games (now African Games) held in Nairobi.
In 1988 he coached Kenya ‘Hit Squad’ to the 1988 Olympic
Games in Seoul, South Korea where Kenya’s Robert Wangila became the first
African to win a gold medal at the Olympics.
As a boxer, he floored Kenya’s most decorated pugilist Philip
Waruinge (who died on October 19, 2022) to take the national bantamweight title
in 1962.
