Leopards boss to defend his seat

AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has announced that he will be defending his seat in the clubs elections scheduled to take place on June 26.

The Leopards and Gor Mahia former player has said that the short period they have been in office for three years have been used to deal with short term plans and targets and now it's time to hand the club their training ground.

“The club election is on and shall be on June 26 and yes, I will defend my seat because we have a lot of things that are in the pipeline and it will be very important that we complete them, especially the physical infrastructure of the club.

Since 1964 we have nothing tangible to show as a club from the pitch to nothing and so we as the office have really worked hard to have our own training ground and we are even targeting to have it before we even go to elections,” Shikanda said.

Shikanda has added that their first three-years-term in office were eaten up by coronavirus which made it a mountain in implementing their long term projects for the club.

“Long term we will have moved from the short term plan because we have had a big challenge in our first term in office which has been brought about by the coronavirus.

The three years that we had have been eaten up by that virus for two years which means we have only had one year to work and so our next phase is long term and we will make sure that the club will be able to put up a training ground,” Shikanda exclusively told the Citizen digital.

Ingwe just like their arch-rivals Gor Mahia have yet to own their training grounds since their formation in 1960s and the Leopards chief insists that the time to give the fans their pride is around the corner.

“We will give our fans at least something to be proud of as our own training ground. The players really need it and the fans too will have a place to be able to meet.

"It's shameful that after 56 years of existence we are yet to have our own training ground and this has to change,” Shikanda concluded.

Leopards are yet to acquire a title deed for their 20-acre parcel of land donated to them by the Daniel Arap Moi government.
