Leopards coach Kimani showers Rupia with praise after dream start

AFC Leopards head coach Antony Kimani has hailed the impact of new signing Elvis Rupia at the den.

Making his debut for Ingwe, Rupia struck in the 90th minute to earn Ingwe maximum points in a thrilling Kenyan Premier League match at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

The former Wazito striker who is viewed as a replacement of John Makwatta who left for Zesco United has promised to thrill the fans for the six month he will be at the club.

“We will never forget what Makwatta has done for this massive club, he scored 13 crucial goals for us before he left. Elvis is a top player and we have told him not to be under pressure at all by trying to fit in Makwatta’s shoes because he has his own unique qualities which will be useful to the team just like we have seen today,” he said.

“ It’s always great when a  striker joins a team and scores on his debut, that gives him confidence heading into the next matches and for him there was no better way of welcoming himself at the den than scoring the winning goal that earned us three points ,” said  the youthful tactician.

On his part, Rupia, a former Wazito FC striker, said: “It’s not about the money. Good results will bring the sponsors on board; I’m not trying to fill in Makwatta shoes, I will be who I am and my job is to score as many goals as possible to help the club finish in the best position and I know I have the qualities to do that.”

Meanwhile, Ulinzi Stars head coach Benjamin Nyangweso says he’s not giving up on the title race.

The soldiers have dropped four points in the last two games to remain fifth on the log on 35 points.

“Teams will drop points at some point, the best way is to continue working hard and believing in our philosophy and I’m sure we will bounce back to our winning ways in our next fixture,” Nyagweso told Citizen Digital.

Ulinzi Stars will next face Nzoia FC on Saturday while Ingwe will host Tusker FC on Sunday.
