Leopards form down to team spirit – Kimani

AFC Leopards stormy start to the campaign that has seen them leap to the summit of the table standings is down to team spirit and cohesion, head coach Antony ‘Modo’ Kimani has said.

Ingwe made it three out of three following  a 3-0 mauling of Sofapaka at the weekend, occupying the top slot ahead of KCB on goal difference.

Free-scoring Elvis Rupia is leading the scorer chart with six goals after registering the league’s first hat-trick of the season, at the weekend, but Kimani submits that teamwork is the key to the brilliant performance so far.

“Definitely the boys are very industrious on the pitch, they are putting in their all and that is what is expected of.

However, times have really changed in the world of football and so we have to pull together; be it in striking or defending – we should all be responsible and play as a team reading from the same script,” the calm Kimani said.

Leopards seem to have found a new lease of life since the resignation of Czech Republican coach Tomas Trucha who managed the team in their first match of the season – a 2-0 win over Tusker.

Ingwe who are touted to be among the title hopefuls this season now aim to stretch their winning run to four when they face their next opponents at the weekend.

Nevertheless, the former Harambee Stars defender has refused to confirm whether the Leopards ruthless performance in the first three matches should sound a warning to title contenders.

“There is no warning at all but to just try as much as we can to be patient and use every opportunity to collect points even though every team that we meet will definitely be very different and will also want to collect something from us,”, he concluded.

Ingwe have now scored an impressive seven goals in the three matches averaging two goals in each game.

Leopards will now await to know their next opponent after Zoo FC who were to face them on Friday have been expelled from the top tier league according to a letter from the FKF.
