Leopards stage go-slow over salary arrears

AFC Leopards players have began a go-slow to force the club into paying their two-months salary arrears plus sign on fees for newly acquired players totalling to about Sh12m.

Players are yet to be paid around Sh8m which is their two month salary plus a signing fees of around Sh4m which they have not paid their new players.

Club chairman Dan Shikanda has pleaded with registered members to keep up their good gesture of supporting the team via code number *417# .

Shikanda has asked those fans not yet registered to do so through the code number to be able to assist the Leopard financially.

“Today our boys have not trained and it is so sad because we have not paid them their salaries for two months.

Our sponsor halted their sponsorship and now our state as per now we have been single handedly been running the club affairs just as officials but want to call upon our members to continue their good gesture of helping us financially through *417#”,he said.

However Shikanda has unearthed that they are in talks with unspecified potential sponsors and something will be in place soon when all their requirements are met.

The go-slow of players has interrupted Leopards’ preparation as they plan to travel to Sony.

Ingwe is facing difficult times ahead after the withdrawal of their sponsor-a betting company-whom the club has been depending on them 100%.

After thrashing Chemelil Sugar 4-0 at Mumias Sports Complex on Sunday ,Leopards had opted to remain in Mumias for training before travelling to Awendo but that was dealt a blow due to lack of finances which forced them to return to Nairobi before the weekend clash.

“I want to promise our fans that we are trying our level best to see to it that the situation gets back to normalcy.

Our obligation is to pay players and enable the team to honor matches and so we ask our fans to extend their support to the club.

If it will be hard then we will be forced each one of us as officials to get personal loans”, he added.

Leopards are in position 3 with seven points only 2 behind leaders Gor Mahia after two wins,a draw and a loss.

They face Sony Sugar at Awendo Green Stadium on Saturday from 1pm.
