AFC Leopards will now have their FKF Premier League home match against Wazito FC played on Monday instead of Sunday as earlier scheduled.

Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has confirmed the changes saying that the two biggest stadiums in the country Nyayo National and MISC Kasarani have been booked for rugby and Police events respectively this weekend.

“Nyayo is being used for rugby matches since Monday running through the weekend while Kasarani has been booked for Police events from Friday, Saturday and Sunday and so we’ve been forced to settle for Monday to play the match,” Shikanda said.

The unavailability of Nyayo Stadium is a particularly big blow for Leopards who boast an unbeaten run this season when playing at their home venue.

Shikanda has stated that they are still in talks with Sports Kenya seeking to have Nyayo available to them later Monday.

“For Nyayo we have been told that it won’t be available even on Monday because they will be working on removing the rugby materials and then have it rest after being used for five consecutive days. That is a big blow to us since it’s our home ground.

“We have told Sports Kenya that it can be used for six consecutive days and then give it the breathing space for even a month but they are not buying into our proposal.

“We are still following up to see whether it will be possible to convince them although there are very slim chances we can find a breakthrough,” Shikanda regretted.

Ingwe won 2-1 against Wazito last Sunday at the Thika Municipal Stadium where head coach Patrick Aussems said he hoped they would play the return leg match on a better pitch.

Leopards sit ninth on the standings with 34 points, four behind eight placed Kariobangi Sharks with a game in hand.
