Luck needed to win Champions League – Sammer

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer feels the Bundesliga giants will need luck if they are to triumph in this season’s UEFA Champions League.

Bayern, who won the competition in 2013, have fallen at the semi-final hurdle in the previous two seasons under coach Pep Guardiola, who will leave at the end of this season

Sammer, who won the competition with Borussia Dortmund 1997, also hopes Bayern steer clear of injuries which hampered them during the latter stages of last year’s campaign

And the 48-year revealed all Bayern players, including those still injured, can do physical work and is confident of a fully fit squad in the coming months.

Bayern flew to Doha, Qatar on Wednesday for a mid-season break and return to Bundesliga action againt Hamburg on January 22.
