Madira Girls are eyeing the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) football title which kicks off tomorrow in Kakamega.

Head coach Eddy Wekesa is confident the Vihiga-based school will bag their first East African title despite losing the national title to reigning champions Butere Girls who stunned them 1-0.

“Our target is to win the East African Title and we are ready to go all out. Our target is to see the title remain in Kenya if not Madira then Butere,” said Wekesa.

He added that they have had intense training sessions and are fired-up for the competition.

“We’ve had better preparations and we’re ready for the competition. We know our opponents are tough and we have to be on top of our game.”

Madira, also known as the Soccer Assassins, have also been preparing for the upcoming season of the Kenya Women Premier League at the same time having been promoted last season.

The tactician also hopes the addition of Junior Starlets midfielder Lindy Wee Atieno will add more firepower to the already star-studded squad at his disposal.

“We have added Lindy Wee who already joined our junior secondary and we are confident she’ll add firepower in our midfield alongside Brenda Awuor who has been a key player for us.”

“Valerie Nekesa is also fit and we are bagging on her quality to lead us to the title. She struggled for fitness in the final against Butere and her fitness is crucial for the EA stage,” added Wekesa.

Madira finished fourth in the 2023 edition and Wekesa is hoping they can finally have the bragging rights this year.

They open their campaign against Kawempe Muslim on Friday looking to extend their dominance against the Ugandan Side after beating them 2-1 in 2023’s edition.

Madira are in Pool A along compatriots Nasokol Girls, reigning champions St. Noa Girls SS and Kawempe Muslim SS from Uganda, Alliance secondary from Tanzania and P.S.S.B Huye from Rwanda.
