Madira keep survival hopes alive despite defeat
Head coach Francis Muhambe who spoke at Mumboha after going down 1-0 to reigning KWPL champions Vihiga Queens said he was contended with the level of football his charges exhibited this season.
“You can only train football but you may not train players to be experienced. Experience comes with age and time a player has been on the pitch. We are still focused and optimistic that we will retain our slot in the premier league next season,” Muhambe said.
“Our current business is Wadadia FC next weekend, not relegation pressure. We are going to give our best to the end. Those who will be relegated will be known at the end of the season,’ he added.
Meanwhile, Muhambe feels Madira were the better side despite suffering a loss at Mumboha Sports Ground.
“Rain made the playing ground muddy. My goalie slid in the mud and was too weak to block Emily Kemunto Moranga from scoring otherwise we would have beaten or shared spoils with Queens,” Muhambe noted.
On his part, Boniface Nyamunyamu was happy for collecting maximum points in their second Vihiga derby.
“We are still in the KWPL title race. I encourage our players to continue collecting maximum points as we wait to see what will happen when the league ends,” Nyamu said.
Madira is fighting to evade relegation at position nine with 13 points while Vihiga Queens is trailing Kenya Police Bullets with 37 points in position two as the KWPL nears the homestretch.
