Madira Soccer
Assassins Director Alex Alumira is hopeful that the recently acquired
sponsorship will help revive the lost glory of the Kenya Women Premier League
(KWPL).
On Saturday,
July 12, the Vihiga-based side unveiled a Sh1.5 million sponsorship from KCB to
support the team’s football and education agenda ahead of their 2025/2026
return to the top-tier league.
The sponsorship,
spread across two seasons, will see the school-based side receive Sh750,000 per
season, specifically to support the education of its players.
In addition, KCB
will supply training equipment, footballs, and other essential resources to
help the team grow both on and off the pitch.
“Our dream as a
club is to nurture talent from a young age all the way into adulthood. That’s
why we have adopted Madira Primary School and Madira Girls to help us develop
these young players into mature, well-rounded individuals,” said Alumira. “We
want to thank KCB for giving the girls a chance to study at Madira Girls and
achieve their academic dreams. Now our goal is to ensure that, after completing
Form Four, the players have opportunities to continue with their studies and
gain essential life skills. We aspire to be a model soccer club where talent
and education come together to help young people realize their dreams.”
He added, “The
sponsorship will also boost the morale of the girls in the FKF Premier League
next season, especially now that we are back after dominating the National
Women Super League. It’s my prayer that they will work hard, clinch the title,
and restore our lost glory.”
Alumira
emphasized that the club aims to provide a solid future for its players by
combining football talent development with quality education.
Founded in 2018
by Alumira, Madira Soccer Assassins made history as the first-ever high school
team to feature in the top tier of Kenyan women’s football during the 2023/2024
season. This milestone came after they won the FKF Women’s Division One Championship
in the previous season.
Although they
were relegated after just one season in the top flight, the team—comprising
players from Madira Girls’ High School in Vihiga County—had already won the
hearts of football purists across the country.
“KCB is not new
to Madira Soccer Assassins. Over the years, we have proudly partnered with the
team to advance education for underprivileged but talented girls, while also
supporting the growth of this beautiful sport,” said KCB Football Club Chairman
Bramwel Simiyu during the unveiling ceremony. “This is a partnership anchored
not just in football, but in purpose and transformation.”
Also speaking at
the event, former Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba expressed confidence
that the Madira dream will be realized at the highest levels of the game.
“I have no doubt
that these girls will grow to become the kind of people we’ve always dreamt
they could be. My greatest hope is to see them pursue a football career at the
highest level,” Namwamba said.
