South African women soccer heavyweights Mamelodi Sundowns are
among clubs interested in signing Harambee Starlets lethal striker Jentrix
Sikangwa Milimu who features for Tanzanian giants Simba Queens.
The former Vihiga Queens forward, who has is left with one month
in her contract with the Msimbazi outfit, joined them on September 28 last year
as a free agent after her early exit from Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk.
In an exclusive interview with Citizen
Digital, Simba Queens manager Selemani Makanya confirmed that the decorated
striker has also attracted interest from top European clubs, and she’s now on
the final lap of negotiations.
“It’s true that Shikangwa may leave us soon, many teams are
chasing after her signature. So far we have received offers from South Africa
giants Mameodi Sundowns, and clubs from Japan, South Korea and China as well.
So far I can’t say anything because the negotiations are ongoing but once the
deal is complete then we will be able to report it to the media.
“She is now on her last month of her contract meaning if all goes well, then she will have reported to her new side by July 1. Jentrix is a great player and has really been instrumental at Simba this season. I know it will be a big blow to let her go but as the club we understand that’s the way to boost player’s growth in football career," said Makanya.
He continued: "Maybe if she joins
one of the cubs thirsting for her, then she would have increased her pay and
brightens her future and maybe you don’t know, she may always yearn to rejoin
Simba in future after her business in Europe is done.”
Shikangwa stared in just ended Serengeti Lite Premier League (Tanzania) 2022-2023 season as she was named the best female player at the Tanzania Football Federation awards on Monday evening.
She scored 17 goals in 16 appearances taking home the Golden Boot Award as
her side Simba finished the season as runners-up three points behind champions
JKT Queens Women are the new champions.
Makanya however refuted possibilities of the top striker rejoining
her former side Vihiga Queens who are gearing up to represent Kenyan in the
forthcoming Cecafa club championship to be held in Kampala in July.
“I wonder why people should link Jentrix with a move to Vihiga. It
can’t happen at all. The truth of the matter is that she may end up in Europe
if all goes well. It will be hard to rejoin Kenyan champions because she still
has a contract with us and Vihiga themselves must initiate talks with us if
they want her and be ready pay handsomely.”
Shikangwa, who is in Kenya for pre- season confirmed to Citizen Digital that she is in talks with
different clubs.
“Several clubs have shown interest, we are currently in talks and
I shall share more soon. My contract is almost coming to an end at Simba and I
don’t know if I will sign a new one. I want to confirm that I’m not rejoining
Vihiga Queens,” she revealed.
Shikangwa is one of the five Kenyan players featuring for the
Serengeti Lite Women's Premier League alongside former Gaspo midfielder
Corazone Vivian Aquino, ex-Tanzanian Women Premier League side Gates Princess
keeper Carolyne Rufa, defender Ruth Ingosti and former Vihga Queens top scorer
Topister Situma who was axed recently.
Sikangwa, brother to Zoo Kericho midfielder Derrick Anami hails
from Khayega, Shinyalu constituency in Kakamega County and she started her
football career by featuring for the Shipalo Primary school before joining
Wiyeta Girls in Trans Nzoia County.
