Mandago impressed with progress of Kipchoge Keino Stadium

Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago is confident the construction of Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret will be complete within the stipulated time.

Earlier in the year, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed picked a new contractor in a bid to hasten the works that have dragged on since 2017 when the stadium was closed down for renovations.

The county chief praised the two firms that are currently on site- Golbo Contractors and Shiv Construction Company- for the progress they have made so far.

“There has been tremendous improvement in the performance of the two contractors and as a county we are happy with the progress they are now making,” said Mandago.

While Athletics Kenya had set the stadium as the venue to host the national trials for the Olympic Games in June, Mandago said the stadium might not be ready by then.

“We were hopeful that the stadium would be complete before the Olympic Games. However with the current Covid-19 situation globally we are not even sure if the Games will proceed but that notwithstanding we have urged the contractor to make sure the stadium is complete on time,” said Mandago.

The construction of the stadium is estimated to cost over Sh600 million and is expected to host 30,000 spectators once complete.
